FAQs
Who is this for?
Homeschool families of all ages.
Unless the specific trip or immersion has an age listed, these trips are for the whole family. That can look like mom and children, dad and children, or another caregiver with your children.
Some field trips are chaperoned overnight groups that parents don’t attend, but those are labeled and in the overnight category.
We may offer drop off options for some crafting classes but play that by ear. Reach out to ask.
What does membership fee cover?
You cannot register for our field trips if you are not a member. Our membership fee covers our costs to plan and organize all field trips, website fees, etc. Some field trips will be available to members each month for no additional cost.
Do I need to register for every field trip? Including free ones?
Yes! This lets us know who is coming. Some have limited space and can fill up so please register as far in advance as you feel comfortable so you make sure to have a spot!
Is this something I can drop my kids off at?
Nope. Unless it is noted otherwise, parents or caregivers come along. We organize and plan the field trips for families to attend stress-free and enjoy their time together.
What activities are planned and how are they educational?
We plan and organize the trips. You just get to show up with your children and enjoy the experience. There will be an educational focus of each experience but our primary focus is connection and immersion in the place. Before all else, this is about having fun and natural learning.
What should we bring for the trip?
You will get an email with a packing list and all directions and information for each field trip.
What are safety measures in place.
You are responsible for your children. Though we are always looking out for one another, no one associated with Field is responsible for watching your child. We will always circle up to talk about safety at the beginning of a field trip and bring a first aid kit along for accidents.
Who are the guides?
For some field trips we are coordinating with farmers, artists, naturalists, scientists, museums, guides, and so on, to share their knowledge and expertise with us. For many others, it will be a Field team member leading a nature walk, craft, or experience.
What is the cancellation policy?
As a new and small organization, refunds will depend on whether there we had to meet a certain number of people to schedule the trip or if material fees are already purchased. If we have to cancel due to too few students registered - you will be refunded.
Are there any additional costs I should be aware of?
Depending on the trip, you may need to pay for parking and may like to purchase something from the places we visit.
Do parents need to sign up if there is an additional fee for a field trip?
It will be listed on each field trip. If it’s a craft, parents can choose to participate alongside their children or just observe and help out. If we need to pay for admission - parents will need to register themselves as well.
Are meals and accommodation provided for overnights? What are they like?
For overnights, accommodation is provided in the cost. This will be listed under each experience but could be hotel rooms in a mid-range hotel, a big house rental, or yurts in the woods. For day trips, you need to bring your own lunches, but for overnights the plan for meals will be listed.
